Can I apply if I’m unemployed now?
Yes, if you’ve completed 12 months of fully insured work within the last 24 months and can proof financial stability
Eligibility While Unemployed
Yes, you can apply while unemployed if:
- You have completed 12 months of fully insured work in Austria within the last 24 months
- You can demonstrate sufficient financial resources to support yourself
Financial Requirements
When unemployed, you must still meet income thresholds:
- Single person: €1,273.99/month net (2025)
- Acceptable income sources include:
- Unemployment benefits (Arbeitslosengeld)
- Emergency assistance (Notstandshilfe)
- Documented savings
- Other regular income
Required Documentation
When applying while unemployed:
- Insurance history extract (Versicherungsdatenauszug) showing your work history
- Proof of unemployment benefits (AMS confirmation)
- Bank statements showing savings
- Documentation of other income sources
- Past pay slips or income proof
Important Considerations
- You cannot be receiving Grundversorgung (basic welfare support) at the time of application
- All qualifying work must have been performed in Austria
- The 12 months of employment do not need to be consecutive
- Your current unemployment does not negatively affect your application if other criteria are met
